Freshers in India

B.Tech CSE Fresher resume example

With internships and projects instead of a job, lead with CGPA, Class X/XII marks and two projects you can explain end to end.

Below: what to put in the summary, six sample bullets with numbers, the skills worth listing, and the mistakes that show up most. The sample resume is a fictional person.

Sample B.Tech CSE fresher resume for Aditya Kulkarni, a fictional person, in the Campus layout. The names, employers and numbers are invented.

CGPA and Class X/XII marks

Write your CGPA the way your college reports it, with the scale: “CGPA 8.1/10”. If your college uses percentage, give the percentage instead. Do not convert one to the other unless the employer asks; conversions differ between universities.

Many campus and off-campus forms set a cut-off on Class X, Class XII and degree marks, so recruiters in India often expect to see all three. Add Class XII and Class X as short education lines below the degree, with board and score. Leave a backlog history off the resume, but answer honestly if a form asks.

Projects do the work of experience

For each project, say what it does, what you built yourself, and one real number: users, records, response time or marks. Link the code (GitHub) only if the repository is tidy and has a README.

A final-year project, an internship, a hackathon entry and one personal project are usually enough. Four thin projects that are all tutorials read worse than two you can explain end to end in an interview.

What to leave off

Private companies do not need your photo, date of birth, father’s name, marital status, religion or a signed declaration at the bottom. They take space that a project could use. Add them only if a specific form or employer asks for them.

Keep it to one page. A fresher resume that runs to two pages usually repeats coursework or lists every tool touched once.

What to put in the summary

Two lines: the degree and year, the kind of role you want (backend, frontend, data, testing), and one proof point from a project or internship. Skip “seeking a challenging position in a reputed organisation”; it says nothing about you.

B.Tech Computer Science graduate (2025) looking for a backend developer role. Built a Spring Boot API used by our college’s fest registration desk and interned for eight weeks on a payments team fixing bugs in Java services.

Example summary, written for a fictional B.Tech CSE fresher.

Sample bullets with numbers

Use real numbers from your own work: bugs fixed, users, records, seconds saved, people taught. If you do not know a number, leave it out rather than guess.

  • Fixed 14 bugs in Java microservices during an eight-week internship and wrote unit tests for each fix.
  • Added pagination to a slow transactions report, cutting its load time from about 9 seconds to under 2.
  • Documented the local setup for the team’s services, which the next two interns used on their first day.
  • Presented the internship work to the team lead and two engineers in the final week.
  • Built the registration API for the college tech fest with two classmates; it handled about 1,200 sign-ups over three days.
  • Ran the department coding club’s weekly practice sessions for 25 juniors across two semesters.

These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.

Key skills to list

  • Java
  • Python
  • SQL (MySQL)
  • Spring Boot
  • Data structures and algorithms
  • Git and GitHub
  • REST APIs
  • Linux basics
  • Unit testing
  • Teamwork

List languages and tools you used in a project or internship and can answer questions on. Group them; don’t rate yourself with stars or percentages.

Common mistakes

  1. Listing ten programming languages, most of them from one first-year lab.
  2. Leaving out CGPA or Class X/XII marks when the role has an eligibility cut-off.
  3. Project lines that only name the tech stack and not what the project does.
  4. Adding a photo, date of birth and a declaration that a private employer never asked for.

A layout that suits this resume

Campus puts the degree and projects at the top, which is what a fresher with internships but no full-time job has to show. It is one column, so job portals and ATS software read it in order. See the Campus template, or compare all 22 layouts.

B.Tech CSE Fresher resume questions

Should a B.Tech fresher resume be one page?

Yes. With internships and projects, one page is enough. Use the space for what you built, not for coursework lists.

Should I mention backlogs?

Not on the resume itself. If an application form asks about backlogs, answer it accurately; misstating it can cost you the offer later.

Do certificates from online courses help?

Only when they back up a skill you also show in a project. A list of course certificates on its own carries little weight.
