Terms of Service

Last updated: 4 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Folio. By using the site, creating an account or buying a download, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Folio.

Who we are

Folio is a resume builder. In these terms, “Folio”, “we” and “us” mean the people who run Folio. To reach us, get in touch through the Contact page.

What Folio does

Folio lets you write a resume, pick a layout, import a resume you already have, compare it with a job post and download it. It is a writing and formatting tool. It is not a job board, a recruiter or an employer, and it does not promise that a resume parser or a person will move your application forward.

The score and the job-match checks are a checklist of things like contact details, bullet length and keyword overlap. Treat them as a second pair of eyes, not a verdict. The sample careers on the site, such as Maya Chen and Rohan Iyer, are made up for the templates.

Your account

You can build and edit a resume without an account. You need an account to buy or use a paid PDF or Word download. To make one you give us a name, an email address and a password.

  • Give us true details and keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Tell us at once if you think someone else has got into your account.
  • You must be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live.

Your resume and your content

You own the words, dates and other details you put into Folio. We do not claim any rights over your resume. Without an account, Folio keeps your drafts in your browser’s local storage and we do not receive them. When you are signed in, your resumes and job applications are also saved to your account on our database, so you can open them on any device. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do keep.

You are responsible for what your resume says. Make sure it is accurate and that you have the right to use everything in it, including any photo and any text you paste in. If you are signed out, your drafts live only in your browser, and clearing its site data deletes them, so sign in or use Download JSON to keep a backup. If you are signed in, you can delete your saved resumes and applications from your account at any time, and you can ask us to delete your whole account.

The Folio name, the templates, the layouts and the site itself belong to us or our licensors. You may use a template to make your own resume, but you may not copy or resell the templates themselves.

Free and paid features

Building, editing, importing and the job-match checks are free. Plain text (.txt) and JSON downloads are free too.

A clean PDF or Word (.docx) download is paid. You can choose one of these:

  • 24-hour pass: $2, once. It adds one pass credit to your account. The credit is used the first time you use a paid feature while no pass is running: a PDF or Word download, Tailor to a job, an AI cover letter, or AI help or job searches beyond the free daily limits. That starts a 24-hour pass for your whole account with everything in the paid plan, including PDF and Word downloads of all your resumes as many times as you like, in any template. After 24 hours the next paid use uses a new credit.
  • Monthly: $5 a month for everything in the paid plan while the subscription is active: unlimited PDF and Word downloads, Tailor to a job, AI cover letters, and higher AI and job-search limits. Subscribers never use credits and are not limited to 24 hours.
  • Yearly: $25 a year for everything in the paid plan (the same as Monthly) while the subscription is active.

Prices are in US dollars and are shown before you pay. We may change prices or plans in the future. A change never affects a purchase you have already made, and it only applies to a subscription from its next renewal after we have told you.

Payments and subscriptions

Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record for your purchase. Dodo takes your card or other payment details and works out and collects any sales tax or VAT that applies. We never see or store your full card number. Your payment is also covered by Dodo’s own terms and privacy notice, which you will see at checkout.

Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price you agreed to, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the Manage subscription button on your Resumes page. After you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for, and you are not charged again.

If a renewal payment fails or a subscription ends, the paid features stop. Your resumes and any unused download credits stay in place.

Refunds and how to cancel are covered in our Refund and Cancellation Policy. In short, a first-time purchase can be refunded within 7 days in the cases described there.

Using Folio fairly

Please do not:

  • use Folio to make a resume that is false or misleading, or to pretend to be someone else;
  • break the law, or upload content you have no right to use;
  • try to get into other people’s accounts, or probe, overload or disrupt the site;
  • use bots or scripts to bulk-download files or get around the paid features;
  • copy, resell or republish the templates or the site.

We may limit or close an account that breaks these rules. If we close an account for that reason we may not give a refund.

Services we rely on

Folio runs on services from other companies: Vercel hosts the site, Neon stores account data, and Dodo Payments handles payments. If one of them has a problem, parts of Folio may stop working for a while. We are not responsible for failures that are outside our reasonable control.

Changes and availability

Folio is offered as it is. We work to keep it running but we do not promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. We may change, add or remove features and templates. If we remove a paid feature you are still paying for, we will work out a fair remedy with you, which may be a refund for the unused part of your plan.

What we do not promise

Folio does not guarantee that you will get an interview or a job, or that any applicant tracking system will read your file a certain way. Always check your downloaded file before you send it.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Folio is provided “as is” without warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as a lost job opportunity or lost data. Our total liability to you for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law that cannot be limited, such as consumer rights in your country.

Ending your use

You can stop using Folio at any time. To close your account, get in touch through the Contact page. We may suspend or close an account if you break these terms or if we have to by law.

Governing law

The laws that apply to you as a consumer are not affected by these terms. Before starting any formal claim, please get in touch through the Contact page first so we can try to fix it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The “Last updated” date above shows the current version. If a change is important, we will say so on the site or by email. If you keep using Folio after a change, you accept the new terms.
