What to put in the summary
Name your certification and state, subject and grade range, and what makes your classroom work. Learning outcomes for groups of students beat statements about passion. Never name students; describe groups and percentages.
Certified middle school science teacher (grades 6–8) with six years in a public school of 700 students. Builds units around hands-on investigation, and has raised the share of students meeting grade-level standards from 61% to 78%.
Sample bullets with numbers
Use class size, outcomes for the whole group and what you changed. Say “students” and keep to percentages; do not identify anyone.
- Taught 150 students across five sections of grade 7 science; the share meeting grade-level standards on the state test rose from 61% to 78% in three years.
- Redesigned the ecosystems unit around a field investigation, raising unit test averages by 9 points.
- Introduced weekly low-stakes quizzes with corrective feedback, reducing the number of students failing the first quarter from 19 to 8.
- Served as the science department lead for five teachers, coordinating the curriculum map and shared assessments.
- Contacted families of struggling students within a week and maintained a log; the number of missing assignments dropped by about a third.
- Coached the school science olympiad team, which advanced to the state round for the first time.
These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.

Teacher resume questions
Should I include a teaching philosophy?
Keep it to the summary line, or bring it as a separate statement if the district asks. The resume should be about evidence.
How should a student teacher write their resume?
Lead with the certification status, then student-teaching placements with grade, subject and one outcome from a lesson or unit.
