Sample project manager resume for Daniel Okafor, a fictional person, in the Brief layout. The names, employers and numbers are invented.

What to put in the summary

State the kind of projects (construction fit-outs, software releases, regulatory change), their typical size in budget and people, and the method you use if it is part of the job post. Then one line on how you handle trouble, because that is what a hiring manager is really asking about.

Project manager for office and clinic fit-outs between $0.5M and $4M. Eight years coordinating contractors, permits and clients, with a record of finishing on the agreed date or giving notice early. PMP certified.

Example summary, written for a fictional project manager.

Sample bullets with numbers

Give scale (budget, people, duration) and the outcome against plan. A project that ran to plan is an achievement; one that recovered is a better story.

  • Delivered 14 clinic fit-outs worth $18M in total; 12 finished on or before the agreed handover date, and the other two within nine days.
  • Rebuilt the change-order process so approvals took two days instead of eight, reducing idle crew time on site.
  • Recovered a project 5 weeks behind after a permit delay by resequencing trades, ending the job one week late instead of five.
  • Managed a $3.2M budget with a variance of under 2% at close-out, reported weekly to the client.
  • Coordinated 22 subcontractors across three concurrent sites using a shared schedule and a Monday coordination call.
  • Introduced a simple risk register reviewed each week; three of the five risks logged on one project were resolved before they cost schedule.

These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.

Key skills to list

  • Scheduling (MS Project, Primavera)
  • Budget and cost control
  • Risk management
  • Stakeholder communication
  • Contract and change-order management
  • Procurement
  • PMP
  • Agile and waterfall
  • Vendor management
  • Reporting

Certifications like PMP or PRINCE2 go near the top if you hold them; add the year. Name the scheduling software the post names.

Common mistakes

  1. Describing projects without a budget, team size or timeline.
  2. Saying “on time and on budget” for everything, with no example of something that went wrong and how you handled it.
  3. Listing methods (Agile, Scrum, Lean, Six Sigma) you have never run.
  4. Leaving out the people side, which is most of the job.

A layout that suits this resume

Margin adds one bold bar down the left edge and keeps a single column, which gives a project manager’s page structure without costing reading order. See the Brief template, or compare all 22 layouts.

Project Manager resume questions

Is the PMP worth putting on a resume?

Yes, if you hold it. Put it in the headline or a certifications line with the year. If you are working towards it, write “PMP candidate” only if you have an exam date.

How do I show project management without the title?

Pick the projects you led in other roles and use the same numbers: budget, team size, deadline and outcome. Titles matter less than scope.
