Your summer internship is the centre
For most MBA freshers, the summer internship project is the most relevant work on the page. Give it the most space: the business problem, what you analysed or did, and what the company did with your recommendation. If the outcome is not known yet, say what you delivered instead of guessing an impact.
Live projects, case competitions and club roles come next, each with what you did and a concrete result such as a placing, a number of participants or a deliverable.
Prior work experience and specialisation
If you worked before the MBA, even for a year, list it with its own bullets; it is real experience and recruiters weigh it. If you came straight from your undergraduate degree, lean on the internship and projects and keep the undergraduate degree to one line.
Put your specialisation (marketing, finance, HR, operations, analytics) in the headline and summary, and pick the skills and bullets that match it. A resume that tries to cover every specialisation reads as undecided.
Format and what to leave off
Many business schools give students a fixed one-page format for campus placements; use it there. For off-campus applications, a clean one-column page like this one works. Leave off a photo, date of birth and declaration unless asked.
What to put in the summary
State the MBA, specialisation and year, the role you want, and the strongest proof point: usually the summer internship. Mention prior work experience in months if you have it.
MBA (Marketing) 2025 graduate looking for a brand or product marketing role. Summer intern at a packaged-foods company, where I analysed retailer sell-through data for a new snack line, and 18 months in inside sales before the MBA.
Sample bullets with numbers
Use numbers that come from your work: outlets, weeks of data, interviews, quarters, people trained. Do not claim revenue impact from an internship unless the company shared it with you.
- Analysed eight weeks of sell-through data from 40 retail outlets for a new snack line and presented three pricing and shelf-placement options to the brand manager.
- Ran 25 store visits and shopper interviews in two cities to explain the gap between trial and repeat purchase.
- Built a weekly Excel dashboard of outlet-level sales that the regional team continued after the internship.
- Wrote the final internship report and presented it to the marketing head and two brand managers.
- Met inside-sales targets in 5 of 6 quarters, selling accounting software subscriptions to small businesses.
- Trained three new sales hires on the product demo and the CRM.
These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.
Key skills to list
- Market research
- Excel (pivot tables, lookups)
- PowerPoint
- Consumer insights
- Sales and distribution
- Basic SQL
- Pricing analysis
- Presentation
- Stakeholder communication
- Hindi and English
Match the skills to your specialisation and the role. Tools such as Excel, SQL or Power BI only belong if a bullet shows you using them.
Common mistakes
- A summer internship described in one line while club roles get five.
- Claiming revenue or market-share impact from an eight-week project.
- Listing every specialisation elective instead of the one you are applying in.
- Going past one page as a fresher.
A layout that suits this resume
Campus leads with education, which suits an MBA fresher whose strongest proof is the summer internship and live projects. It is one column, so it holds up when uploaded to a portal. See the Campus template, or compare all 22 layouts.
MBA Fresher resume questions
Should an MBA fresher include undergraduate details?
Yes, as one education line with the degree, college, year and score. Class XII and X lines are often asked for on placement forms; add them if your school’s format includes them.
How do I list a summer internship with no known result?
Describe the problem, the work and what you delivered (the analysis, the deck, the recommendation). Leave the impact out rather than guess.
