Pick the role before you write
A B.Com degree leads to quite different first jobs: accounts executive, audit assistant, banking operations, tax assistant, MIS or sales support. Write the resume for one of them at a time. The summary, skills and the order of your bullets change with the role.
If you are also preparing for CA, CMA or CS, say which level you have cleared or are attempting, with the month and year. Employers hiring for accounts roles look for it.
Show the practical work
Recruiters for accounts and finance roles want to know what you have actually done: entries passed in Tally, a bank reconciliation, GST invoices checked, an Excel report built. An internship at a CA firm, a family business or a college society’s accounts all count if you describe the work plainly.
Name the software you used (Tally Prime, Excel, a bank’s own system) and the Excel functions you are comfortable with, such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables or SUMIFS, only if you can use them in a test.
Marks and what to leave off
Give your degree percentage or CGPA with its scale, and add Class XII and Class X lines with board and score, since many forms check them. Leave off a photo, date of birth, father’s name and a declaration unless the employer asks.
What to put in the summary
Name the degree and year, the role you want, and the practical work you can already do. One honest line about a professional exam in progress is useful for accounts roles.
B.Com graduate (2025) looking for an accounts executive role. Passed entries and prepared bank reconciliations in Tally Prime during a three-month internship at a CA firm, and cleared CA Foundation in 2023.
Sample bullets with numbers
Count what you handled: clients, entries, invoices, rupee amounts, months. Keep amounts in the form the firm used them (lakh or thousand) and round honestly.
- Passed purchase and sales entries in Tally Prime for 6 small-business clients during a three-month internship.
- Prepared monthly bank reconciliations for 3 clients and flagged unmatched entries to the senior for review.
- Checked GST details on about 200 purchase invoices a month against the registers before filing.
- Built an Excel tracker of pending documents for the 6 clients, which the team kept using after the internship.
- Kept the accounts of the college commerce society for a year, covering about ₹1.5 lakh of event income and spending.
- Worked weekends at a family-run stationery shop, handling the cash register and daily sales book.
These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.

B.Com Fresher resume questions
Should I mention that I am preparing for CA?
Yes, for accounts and audit roles. State the level cleared and the next attempt month, so the employer can plan around exam leave.
Is a family-business internship worth listing?
Yes, if you describe the actual work: entries, reconciliations, invoices. Name it honestly as a family business; do not dress it up.
