Who it suits
Starter is for people early in their working life: students, recent graduates, career changers with a short work history, and anyone applying for retail, hospitality, trades or healthcare entry roles. It keeps one column and a small accent mark under your name, and gives education and projects room without pretending you have a longer history than you do.
How the layout works
- A small accent mark under the name and a light header.
- Line rules under headings for a clear, simple structure.
- A warm bronze accent and comfortable spacing.
- One column; put education first and move it down as you gain experience.
ATS notes
Starter is a single column of real text with no tables or text boxes. Folio tags it Student because of who it is for. As with any layout, use plain headings and check the text export.
When to pick something else
You have ten or more years of experience and need a denser layout. Compact, Classic or Modern would use space better.
Tips for filling it in
- Lead with education only if it is your strongest proof; otherwise lead with work or projects.
- Count part-time jobs, volunteering and club roles when you describe what you have done.
- Keep to one page; if you must cut something, cut skills lists before bullets.
Starter template questions
What do I put on a resume with no experience?
Projects, coursework with real outputs, volunteering, clubs and part-time work, each described by what you did and for how many people. Be honest about what you did.
Should I include a photo on Starter?
There is a photo slot but it is off by default. Follow the norm of the country you are applying in.
